An AI assistant for journalists that speeds the work, not the checks

OPTES transcribes your recorded interviews, dialects included, reads long documents and reports and summarises them with page references, researches a story's background with sources, analyses official data tables and edits copy to fit the space. Verifying every fact and every source, and every editorial call, stays with you and your newsroom.

What OPTES does for you

Transcribe interviews

Turns a recorded interview into text, even when the source speaks in dialect. You go back to the recording to confirm every quote before it goes in quotation marks.

An example of what you type

Transcribe my interview with the generator owner as spoken, and mark unclear passages so I can listen again

AvailableSpeech to text

Read long documents and reports

Reads reports running to hundreds of pages, or scanned documents, and summarises the key points with page numbers. You check each figure in its place in the original.

An example of what you type

Summarise this budget report in ten points, and give the page number for every figure you mention

AvailableReading images and documents

Story background with sources

Builds the background and a timeline of events with links to sources. You open and verify each one, and find a second independent source for anything sensitive.

An example of what you type

Give me a timeline of the electricity crisis in Basra province since 2018, with a link for every event

AvailableResearch and summaries with sources

Analyse a data table

Writes code to analyse an official data file, pulls out trends and outliers and explains its method. You check the numbers before you build a headline on them.

An example of what you type

This CSV has monthly food prices from the official statistics office. Where was the biggest rise in the last year?

AvailableCoding and full projects

Edit the story and headlines

Cuts the story to the word count, suggests alternative headlines and intros, and flags sentences that need attribution. The editorial call is yours and your editor's.

An example of what you type

Cut this story to 600 words, suggest three headlines that aren't sensational, and flag any sentence that needs attribution

FAQ

Questions and answers

How does OPTES help journalists?

It shortens the time-consuming work: transcribing interviews, reading and summarising long documents, researching background with sources, analysing data and editing. Verification and editorial decisions stay with the journalist and the newsroom.

Can I publish what it finds without checking?

No. It gives summaries with sources so you can check them yourself, and it can be wrong like any tool. Verify every fact at its original source, ideally with a second independent source, before publishing.

What about protecting my sources?

Don't upload anything that could identify a confidential source unless it is necessary, and replace names and identifying details first. Always follow your organisation's policy and professional ethics on source protection.

Will it write the story for me?

It can draft from your notes and transcripts, but the story is your responsibility: verification, balance, correct attribution and final wording. Follow your organisation's policy on disclosing AI use too.
